1 Therefore, if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Philippians 2:1-4

Same Love; Believers are to love others in the body of Christ equally- not because they are all equally attractive, but by showing the same kind of sacrificial, loving service to all, which was shown to them by Christ (John 15:13). (MacArthur, p.30)

Interests of others; the basic definition of true humility. (MacArthur, p.30)

The Bible states several times that one is to love others as a friend. One states, “Love does no harm to a neighbor,” Romans 13:10, and “Let each of you look not only at his own interests but also at the interests of others” Philippians 1:4. Finally, “therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing” 1 Thessalonians 5:11.

A challenge: Encourage someone this week, but put other people’s interests before your own. Love those around you, even if they do not love you back.
